What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Day Porter position at Alternatives For Girls?
Alternatives For Girls is seeing a Facility Day Porter who will help support AFG’s mission by maintaining the organization’s facilities, performing regular cleaning and repairing tasks and coordinating/supporting the work of contract vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform minor, general repairs as needed on building, grounds, vehicles, equipment, such as repairing doors, locks and handles; replacing light bulbs, sockets and switches; patch drywall, etc.
- Perform basic plumbing tasks, including drains faucets and toilets, etc.
- Perform daily cleaning duties of all areas of the building, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
- Maintain outdoor areas such as mowing, trimming, edging, shoveling, etc.
- Inspect control panels and electrical wiring.
- Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies—notify Manager of the need to order.
- Promptly respond to help-desk ticket requests for emergency repairs and clean-ups.
- Ensure maintenance equipment is in good working order.
- Collaborate with vendors on maintenance/repairs at the facility as needed.
- Assist with safety and fire protection and prevention programs by inspecting work areas and equipment and conducting drills as required.
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Demonstrated Abilities:
- Self-starter, organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule including after-hours and/or weekends, when special events are scheduled to occur.
- Good attention to detail and follow-up.
- Ability to move furniture when needed and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

- The ability to safely operate hand and power tools and cleaning equipment.

Required Knowledge:
- High school diploma/GED preferred but not required.
- Sound knowledge of and experience with basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical wiring required. Proven general maintenance experience necessary.
- A minimum of 6-12 months experience as a housekeeper, custodian, janitor or similar role.
- Experience sending and receiving emails and texts and ability to learn our help-desk ticketing system.
- Knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Working knowledge of the methods, technique and materials used in custodial work.
- Familiar with operating, caring for and storing custodial equipment and supplies.
Typical shift for the Facility Day Porter is Monday-Friday, 6am-2pm
