Job Overview : A mechanical engineer works with other MEPF engineers to design building mechanical systems. Responsibilities and Duties
- System Design / Calculations
Heating & cooling load calculations
Pipe and duct pressure calculationsPerforms psychrometric calculationsCalculations for ASHRAE standards 55, 62.1System Design / DraftingUtilize Revit 3D drafting software to layout ductwork, piping, and equipment
Produces drawing setsSelects equipment, such as fans, diffusers, terminal boxes, fan coil units, pumps, air handling units, humidifiers, radiant heatGain understanding of different mechanical system types (dust collection, kitchen exhaust, steam systems, etc.)Learns outline and book specificationsLife SafetyMachine room exhaust design and calculation
Calculations for ASHRAE standard 15Learns stair and elevator pressurization calculationsLocate equipment for atrium exhaustPost-fire smoke purgeMaintaining fire and smoke rating (fire dampers, smoke dampers locations)Smoke detectorsConstruction AdministrationReview of submittals and RFIs
Attends construction meetings as requiredSustainabilityGain familiarity with various certifications (LEED, etc.)
Complete LEED documentationParticipates in sustainability meetingsConsiders energy impact when implementing designsDesign CoordinationCollaborates with fellow Altieri engineers of all MEPF trades to progress project design

Coordination – manages MEPF tradesFinancials – manages budget schedules and billing, prepares add servicesConstruction / CA – oversees construction process of projectAdditional tasks as requested.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering, or similar field4 years of experienceEIT certification or PE license preferredAbility to communicate their technical knowledgeA team player. Proven ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally to accomplish goals.Motivated to continue with their career developmentTakes pride in their work and is committed to providing quality workWilling to ask questions, and learns from feedback given to them
