Mold Changer - A Shift

A Mold Changer is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machines used in plastic molding processes, ensuring they meet specified production and quality standards. This role requires technical expertise in adjusting and configuring equipment, interpreting blueprints, and monitoring machine performance to optimize production efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Mold Setter, Die setter, setter, plastics-molding machine
• Sets up and adjusts automatic compression, injection, or transfer machines used to mold plastic materials to specified shape, following blueprints, and utilizing knowledge of machine functions.
• Reads specifications to determine machine setup and prescribed temperature and time settings.
• Positions, aligns, and secures assembled mold or mold components, and machine accessories, onto machine press bed, according to guide marks, using hoist, power tools, and hand tools.
• Attaches connecting lines, for example air, oil, or water to mold, and adjusts controls to regulate mold temperature.
• Sets machine controls and turns dials to regulate specified machine forming pressure and plastic curing time in mold.
• Starts machine to produce sample product.
• Measures and visually inspects sample product for surface and dimensional defects, using microscope, micrometer, and gauges, and adjusts machine setup to eliminate defects.
• May also repair and maintain machines and auxiliary equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
• May also be designated according to type of machine set up as Compression-Molding-Machine Setter (plastic industry), Injection-Molding-Machine Setter (plastics prod.)

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.  Employee could be exposed to seasonal weather conditions if required to go outdoors.  Proper use of PPE is required at all times.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be regularly required to:

• Remain stationary extended periods of time
• Move around production floor
• Communicate with subordinates
• Position self to ground level as needed
• Move, adjust, and position anywhere from 10 to 45 lbs
• Identify, recognize and assess documents, machinery and more.

Preferred Experience

• 1 years machine operating experience
• 1 years plastic molding knowledge
