Altius Talent is working with a well-established freight forwarding and logistics company that specializes in global supply chain solutions. Our client is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Import Logistics Specialist to manage inbound freight operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective movement of goods while maintaining compliance with international trade regulations.
Role Overview:
As an Import Logistics Specialist, you will oversee the end-to-end import process, coordinating with carriers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth cargo movement. This role requires expertise in ocean & air import operations, freight coordination, and vendor management while ensuring cost-efficiency and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
✅ Shipment Coordination & Execution
- Manage door-to-door import logistics for ocean (FCL/LCL) and air freight shipments.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, carriers, and warehouses to optimize supply chain performance.
- Monitor inbound shipments, ensuring on-time delivery and proactively resolving delays.
- Work closely with customs brokers to facilitate smooth clearance processes.
✅ Vendor & Carrier Management
- Maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, trucking companies, and warehouses to secure competitive rates and service levels.
- Evaluate carrier performance and implement cost-saving strategies to enhance operational efficiency.
- Negotiate freight rates, surcharges, and contract terms with vendors.
✅ Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all import documentation (bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, arrival notices, etc.) are accurate and compliant with CBP and international trade regulations.
- Stay updated on INCOTERMS, import regulations, and trade compliance policies.
- Work with finance teams to ensure accurate duty, tax, and freight cost reconciliation.
✅ Customer Service & Internal Collaboration
- Act as a key liaison between clients, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure smooth import operations.
- Provide regular shipment updates to customers and resolve any logistics-related issues.
- Assist in inventory management and forecasting to support supply chain planning.
Qualifications:
✔ Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, or a related field (preferred but not required).
✔ Experience: [X] years in import logistics, freight forwarding, or global supply chain management.
✔ Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of ocean & air freight processes, INCOTERMS, and import regulations.
✔ Technical Skills: Proficiency in CargoWise, SAP, or other TMS platforms; Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
✔ Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot delays, coordinate alternative solutions, and manage unexpected logistics challenges.
✔ Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to interact with clients, carriers, and regulatory bodies effectively.
