Position Overview:
The Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and instrumentation systems at our Institute, WV facility. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of plant operations while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain facility instrumentation systems, including automatic control valves, transmitters, controllers, and distributed control systems (DCS).
- Perform steam tracing repairs and monitoring to ensure proper system functionality.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues.
- Utilize pneumatic and electronic test equipment for diagnostics and calibration.
- Complete assigned maintenance service requests in a timely and safe manner.
- Conduct mechanical and electrical repair work on plant equipment and facility infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement solutions to minimize downtime.
- Work closely with production teams to understand operational needs and equipment performance concerns.
- Maintain and follow preventive maintenance schedules to ensure system reliability.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, following all site safety protocols and best practices.
- Promptly report any unusual occurrences, equipment damage, or potential issues to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in industrial electrical or instrumentation preferred.
- Experience in an industrial, chemical, or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, industrial instrumentation, and process controls.
- Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining DCS, PLCs, and motor control systems is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, handling equipment, and performing tasks that involve stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, climbing, and squatting. Candidates must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs regularly, 40 lbs frequently, and 50 lbs occasionally. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color distinction, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an operating unit within a chemical manufacturing facility, often in environments with moderate to high noise levels and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, rain gear, Nomex coveralls, work gloves, face shields, and respirators is required.
