Job Description
Under the direction of and reporting to the Design Manager, provide assistance and support to Design and Project Engineers in the development of new designs and maintenance of existing products. This role executes the commercialization of product lines to ensure compliance with existing manufacturing capabilities, consideration of manufacturing efficiencies, and consistency in mechanical/spatial integrity.
The ideal candidate for a Design Engineer would be able to do the following:
Work within cross functional project teams to create new and analyze existing products in the areas of design, function, styling, cost, manufacturability and other engineering factors. Ensure designs meet all internal and external customer needs.Function as part of the Design Team and liaison person between various functional groups: Production, Service, Technical Publications, Customer Service, and Engineering departments.
Execute the creation of and changes to parts and assemblies in SOLIDWORKS to support Engineering Change Orders and Projects while ensuring compliance with Engineering standards and best-practices.
Execute design studies, tolerance stack-ups and drafting checks.
Participate in pilot builds for testing and customer field trials throughout the NPD process.
Execute structural, thermal, and flow analyses on CAD parts and assemblies using virtual analysis tools (CFD & FEA).
Total Cost of Ownership – As assigned, focus on product cost reduction activities in support of and defined by yearly cost metrics and targets.
Possess an awareness of Agency and Certification Standards such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Intertek (ETL), National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), International Agencies (CSA, VDE, TUV) to help ensure designs are in compliance.
Possess an awareness of NPD process requirements (DFMEA, DVP&R, PFMEA).
Understanding of all quality and safety regulations, departmental, company policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree required (BS preferred) or equivalent experience, with 1-2 years' experience as an Engineer or Designer
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS (or other 3D CAD) and PDM software; SOLIDWORKS Certification (CSWP or CSWE) is a plus
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical assemblies, manufacturing processes, and basic electrical circuits
- Proficiency in GD&T, tolerance analysis, and computer-aided drafting techniques
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with ability to work in teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs; experience in Oracle Cloud application a plus
- Ability to handle multiple activities to meet target dates
