ALTON COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 11
Alton, Illinois
Administrative Center – Maintenance – Plumber – 12 months/8 hours
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsibilities of this job include executing tasks and duties associated with business matters of the District.
SUPERVISOR: Director of Buildings and Grounds
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working as a plumber in large institutional systems
- Excellent reliability
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- No known physical problems that would restrict range of motion
- Able to work from a ladder for extended periods. No excessive fear of heights or tight quarters
- Free from allergies to insect stings and dust
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Self-motivation
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical requirements include but are not limited to the following:
- Must have successfully completed an approved Plumbing training program
- Must be able to interpret specifications, blueprints, wiring diagrams and equipment manuals related to Boiler and Chillers, including understanding symbols used in plumbing trade
- Must be knowledgeable of both steam and hot water boiler systems
- Must be able to maintain and install equipment in accordance with the National Plumbing Code and interpret its safety requirements
- Must be familiar with and be able to use standard tools i.e. punches, pipe benders, hammer drill and other test equipment
- Must be able to "trouble shoot" equipment to determine causes of failure and whether additional "in- house" or contracted help is required to repair
- Must be able to prepare cost estimates for "in-house" equipment repairs and installations
- Be able to work on dish machines, garbage disposals, RPZ's, hot water heaters, etc
- Run power eel and other drain opening equipment
- Completion of work orders in timely manner
- Determine optimum and most cost effective procedure to use in making repairs
- Maintain tools and equipment in clean and safe operating conditions
- Able to work well with others to support the District in a wide variety of needs
- Able to work flex shift hours as needed
- Able to cover rotation of security call outs
- All other duties as assigned by maintenance supervisor
