Summary :
The Medical Director assists in establishing short and long-range plans for assigned areas linked to the Strategic Plan and established organizational policy. Responsible for the planning, directing, and coordinating of care delivery and resulting in highly reliable quality care and service experience for patients, families, and other customers. Functions as a partner with the Director of assigned areas. Provides leadership and management oversight for Department Chairs, Physician Liaisons, and Section Chiefs. Consistently and effectively applies management principles and process improvement skills in conducting administrative responsibilities. Serves as a role model for other physicians and cultivates the value of a multi-specialty group practice in providing a high standard of coordinated care to patients in our region.
Essential Job Functions :
- Builds consensus with Leadership and Medical Staff working in cooperation on related strategy and program initiatives.
- Develops, implements, monitors, and appropriately delegates measurable goals and objectives that provide a clear line-of-site to the Strategic Plan. Partners with Director to collaboratively develop department-specific strategy and supports Practice Managers and Department Chairs in achieving department goals. Supports Department Chairs in the development and implementation of appropriate action plans to resolve for variances from goals.
- Oversees physician and specialized position recruitment, and participates in the credentialing and privileging process for assigned areas. Participates in the performance review process within the division, and within the established timelines.
- Collaborates with leadership in consistently defining expectations, level of authority, accountability, and responsibility. Holds Department Chairs and individual physicians accountable for departmental activities and goals and for meeting Altru Health System’s standards, policies, procedures, etc.
- Assists leadership in achieving expected outcomes, while at the same time using appropriate resources such as finances, staff, supplies, time, etc. Assists leadership in the development and implementation of capital and operating budgets ensuring that targets are appropriate and outcomes are met. Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, guidelines, and job descriptions.
- Assists in assuring that physician / medical standards are met for all applicable regulatory agencies, i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, credentials, etc.
- Additional responsibilities may be attached to Job Description as agreed to by President / Chief Medical Officer and / or Administrator. Copy of additional responsibilities will be retained by the Administrator in physician department file. Copy will not be attached to official Job Description retained in Human Resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department / organization.
