Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct microscopic examinations on gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, accurately differentiating and identifying cells using established cytologic criteria.
- Detect, select, and clearly mark cells most representative of pathological processes present, preparing a provisional diagnosis for all gynecological and non-gynecological cases referred to the cytology supervisor or pathologist.
- Interpret specimen acceptability, communicate correct collection, transport requirements, and specimen unacceptability issues to caregivers in a timely manner, ensuring accurate documentation according to standard operating procedure.
- Assist in collecting Fine Needle Aspirates following standard operating procedure.
- Exercise initiative and judgment in investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving QC failures, informing next-level authorities as necessary, and documenting all actions taken. Utilize available technologies to record and retrieve data in daily workflows.
- Prepare final diagnoses using established cytologic terminology for gynecologic specimens reported as within normal limits.
- Perform accessioning, routine staining, and coverslipping of cytologic slides.
- Maintain clear and concise specimen identification throughout the analytical process.
- Obtain Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of the start date.
- Meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologists.
