About the Role
The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of Altru Health. The nurse maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Patient Rounds: Perform daily rounds on all patients, ensuring quality customer service by coordinating and taking action on any unmet requirements.
- Care Planning: Develop a plan of care based on assessment that reflects the patient's physical, psychological, social, educational, developmental, and rehabilitative needs.
- Patient Assessment: Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the patient's physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs.
- Pain Management: Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly and take appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
- Emergency Response: Identify the early warning signs of a change in a patient's condition and respond appropriately to a deteriorating patient, including contacting responsible clinicians as indicated by standard operating procedure.
Additional Responsibilities
- Communication: Establish and maintain communication with patients and other significant individuals, utilizing educational opportunities to optimize patient/family understanding.
- Discharge Planning: Begin discharge planning as early as possible, providing education and counseling based on identified needs to ensure safe patient discharge.
- Team Collaboration: Assign or delegate nursing interventions to other persons within the scope of practice, education, and experience.
