The Occupational Therapist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients in compliance with licensure standards. The role involves working with an interdisciplinary team to contribute to patient goal development, care planning, and identifying barriers to discharge. This position provides patient-centered care, ensuring that patients and families are educated on treatment procedures, assistive devices, home programs, and other health-related topics.
Main Responsibilities
- Orient patients, family, and/or other relevant parties to the purpose and procedures of therapy evaluations and treatments.
- Select and perform evaluation and treatment methods aligned with patient age, diagnosis, symptoms, and physician orders, documenting according to chart review standards.
- Coordinate treatment schedules with disciplines using appropriate scheduling procedures.
- Monitor program effectiveness and outcomes, initiating new programs as needed.
- Perform pain assessments and take action according to standard operating procedure.
- Obtain and document all required and pertinent patient information, including precautions, orders, and initial plans of care.
- Participate in inter-disciplinary team development and accurate documentation of discharge plans.
- Identify significant changes in patient condition and take appropriate actions through reporting, staffing consultations, and documentation.
- Provide clinical supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) in a collaborative manner following state licensure and care delivery standards.
Certifications and Requirements
- Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) certification from North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy or Minnesota Board of Occupational Therapy Practice prior to start date.
- National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred.
- Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from American Heart Association within 90 days of start date.
