Foundry Machine Operator
Foundry Machine Operators are responsible for operating hand-controlled mechanisms to pour and regulate the flow of molten metal into molds to produce castings or ingots. Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
Description:
- Set up, operate, or tend metal, casting.
- Pour and regulate the flow of molten metal into molds and forms to produce castings, using ladles or hand-controlled mechanisms.
- Read temperature gauges and observe color changes, adjusting furnace flames, torches, or electrical heating units as necessary to melt metal to specifications.
- Observe continuous operation of automatic machines to ensure that products meet specifications and to detect jams or malfunctions, making adjustments as necessary.
- Remove finished or cured products from dies or molds, using hand tools, air hoses, and other equipment, stamping identifying information on products when necessary.
- Examine molds to ensure they are clean, smooth, and properly coated.
Experience And Education
- High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
