POSITION: Cut to Length Machine Operator
LOCATION: Elkhart, IN
REPORTS TO: Manufacturing Team Lead/Plant Manager
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Cut-to-Length (CTL) is a metal processing operation generating individual sheets of material from a single incoming coil. A CTL Line consists of multiple pieces of equipment including but not limited to an uncoiler, straightener, leveler, feeder/s, press/die, conveyors, shear, stacker and other auxiliary equipment. A team of two operators are jointly responsible for setting up and operating each component of the line ensuring maximum safety, quality, efficiency and productivity of the work center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
- Perform Daily Safety/Maintenance Equipment and Shift Inspections.
- Monitor and maintain CTL Schedule.
- Setup and operate equipment for maximum safety, quality, efficiency and productivity of work center.
- Responsible for cutting/leveling aluminum coil.
- Monitor and manage all processed material for defects during operation and inspections; remove defects from customer product as necessary.
- Ensure maximum safety, quality and productivity of Work Center.
- Responsible for housekeeping of CTL Line and surrounding areas.
- Participate in training of other team members.
- Availability to work overtime as required
- Perform other job-related tasks as assigned.
Required Education, Knowledge, Experience, Certification, Licenses, Registration:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year experience with sheet metal equipment
- Familiarity with modern manufacturing methods and materials
- Coil processing experience preferred
Skills & Abilities:
- Able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and oversee all CTL operations simultaneously
- Able read/interpret tape measure and other measuring instruments
- Able to read and interpret manufacturing prints
- Able to convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions
- Good working math and geometry skills
- Able to consistently work in a team of two operators
- Detail-oriented
- Basic computer skills; preferably applicable to ERP or MRP Systems
- Able to utilize small hand and power tools to complete miscellaneous tasks as required (hammer, pry-bar, snips, pliers, hand shears, heat gun, nail gun, circular saw, utility knife, etc.)
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening
Physical Demands:
- Able to lift and move up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Able kneel/stoop/twist/crouch/reach/lift with or without reasonable accommodation
- Able to work in standing/walking/sitting position in excess of eight hours per day
- Demonstrate good eye/hand coordination
- Perform repetitive motions for eight hours of a day
Work Environment:
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, noise, temperature and other elements in the facility
