Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Housing supports the strategic planning, management, and daily operations of on-campus housing, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enriching living environment for students. The Assistant Director collaborates with campus partners to enhance the residential experience and promote student engagement, success, and well-being for the Office of Residence Life & Housing (ORLH) and its students. The Assistant Director of Housing reports to the Executive Director of Residence Life & Housing. Position is a 40 plus hour/week live-in position, including a University assigned meal plan during the academic year, with rotating on call/after-hours responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
Residential Life and Housing Staff Member
• Supervise and evaluate the Housing Operations Coordinator from the Office of Residence Life & Housing (ORLH) professional staff.
• Supervise and evaluate Resident Assistant staff within a designated community.
• Coordinate departmental operations efforts to meet stated institutional budget goals.
• Such operations include but are not limited to: incoming/returning student housing selection, housing lottery, housing marketing campaigns, occupancy reporting, semester break housing, etc.
• Oversee summer housing processes and the residential service portion of summer conferences.
• Oversee residential key management operations.
• Attend regularly scheduled Facilities and Campus Operations (FACO) meetings.
• Coordinate custodial/maintenance operations for residential communities.
• Develop proficiency and maintain skills in using eRezLife and other platforms as needed.
• Correspond/coordinate housing processes with eRezLife representative(s) to carry out housing selection processes.
• Regularly update CampusESP and other appropriate social media platforms.
• Serve on the Level 1 on-duty response personnel for the campus. Available for coverage during break and holiday periods as needed.
• This position is part of the “essential personnel” required to be on campus in the event of any campus emergency/shut down situations (e.g., weather, pandemic, etc.).
Training and Staff Development
• Assist with onboarding and professional training for Housing Operations Coordinator and Work Study student(s).

• Work with the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Executive Director of Community Standards and Student Support Initiatives, Public Safety, the Facilities and Campus Operations Team, Student Financial Services, Penn Medicine Medical and Counseling Center, and ORLH staff (Executive Director of Residence Life & Housing, Housing Operations Coordinator, Area Coordinators/Graduate Hall Director, and the RA Staff), to develop a residential environment that supports the academic mission of the university and that balances the need for sleep, study, and community development.
• Attend regularly scheduled Divisional and Student Affairs meetings (and others as assigned).
• Serve as a member of the Thoughtful Assessment Group (TAG) as needed.
• Serve as a Community Standards Hearing Officer when necessary.
• Attend trainings, retreats, and planning sessions as needed.
• Maintain a high profile at student programs and athletic events.
• Work nights and weekends as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Education:
• Commitment to the mission statement, core values and goals of Alvernia University.
• Master’s degree/Certification in Higher Education or relevant years of experience preferred.
• Previous full-time experience in residence life or housing preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
