What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dog Trainer position at Always Faithful Dog Training?
Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Dog Trainer to join our team.
Our business is pretty simple, we get to help people learn how to handle their dogs. We teach you our methods and you teach dog owners.
Great for Retired Individuals, Veterans, or Moms who want to make some extra money while the kids are at school. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who loves dogs and seeks a flexible schedule with excellent compensation.
Location - although trainers will travel to clients, we are seeking trainers that live in or around: Traverse City
Service Areas - Empire, Interlochen, Traverse City, Williamsburg and surrounding region
The ideal candidate will possess:
Professionalism & sales ability. Our trainers need to be skilled and timely in responding to customer inquiries, able to articulate our unique sales proposition, discern qualified opportunities and manage time appropriately.
Use our training methods exclusively. We train leadership methodology and therefore, we do not use food, clickers, or shock collars. If you want to use those tools, you can't work here.
Good social skills with dogs and humans. Clients need to be open and honest about their wins and their failures. We create a safe space where they can openly admit their challenges.
Be calm and commanding/confident at all times. You’ll need to keep a high level of patience since you are training animals and they require time and repetition to understand. Dogs perceive nervousness or anxiety/fear and this will effect the success of your training.
Humility, openness to feedback and learning. We are always learning something new as we are training different dogs. Take a queue from our 4-legged friends… you can teach an old dog new tricks! There may be times when a particular dog isn’t responding as expected to a particular method and you’ll need to be able to ask for help or admit when you make a mistake.
Time Management skills. Trainers will need to carefully manage their own time and be considerate of our clients’ time. This is our job, not theirs! They may have children, jobs, or many other demands on their time which may prevent them from practicing or require lessons after hours or on weekends.
Sense of humor. We train dogs after all, so you’ll need to be fun and open with people so they feel comfortable while you are in their homes. Something silly, embarrassing, or messy will happen so you’ll need to be able to laugh when things get tense.
Comfortable with all walks of life. Our human clients are as diverse as our dogs! We rarely turn down a client unless it is a service beyond our expertise.
Requirements:
- Must have reliable transportation & ability/willingness to travel to people's homes since lessons are conducted in our clients' homes. We will decide on a mileage radius around your home (mostly likely 20-30 miles depending on where you live).
- Permitted to work legally in the US.
- Previous or current dog owner.
- Must be over 25 years of age.
- Must be able to pass a federal background check.
Skills:
- Strong skills in customer service, animal handling, demonstrating patience and understanding of canine behavior.
- Experience in equestrian handling is a plus but not required.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with pet owners and team members.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
If you are passionate about animals and have the skills necessary to train dogs effectively, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position.
