Job Summary:
The Painter & General Construction Assistant performs high-quality interior/exterior painting (residential/commercial) and minor construction repairs (drywall, flooring, siding) to ensure client satisfaction. This role requires adherence to OSHA, OR-OSHA, and EPA regulations, physical stamina, and the ability to safely and efficiently handle multiple trades.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Duty – Painting:
- Prepare surfaces (sanding, scraping, patching, priming).
- Apply paint, stain, and finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers.
- Mix and match paints for accurate color.
- Protect surfaces with drop cloths/masking.
- Comply with OR-OSHA safety standards for ladders, scaffolding, and hazardous materials (e.g., lead paint).
Secondary Duties – General Construction:
- Drywall repair: patch holes, tape, mud, and texture.
- Flooring: assist with laminate, vinyl, or baseboard installation/repair.
- Siding: repair/replace damaged wood, vinyl, or fiber cement siding.
- Minor carpentry: trim work, door/window adjustments.
- Assist with debris cleanup and job site organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety & Compliance:
- Handle and dispose of paints, solvents, and debris per Oregon DEQ/EPA rules.
- Use PPE (respirators, gloves, goggles) and ensure ventilation in enclosed spaces.
- Follow fall protection (harnesses for heights >6 ft.) and ladder safety protocols.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand, bend, kneel, and climb ladders/scaffolding for extended periods.
- Lift/carry 50 lbs. (paint, materials, tools).
- Work in various conditions (heat, cold, heights, confined spaces).
- Manual dexterity for detailed brushwork and power tool use.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 1 years in painting and basic construction (drywall, flooring, siding).
- Safety Knowledge/Certification:
- OR-OSHA standards (fall protection, chemical handling).
- Lead Renovator Certification (for pre-1978 homes).
- OSHA 10/30 or other relevant safety training.
- Tools: Proficiency with paint sprayers, sanders, caulking guns, and basic carpentry tools.
Work Environment:
- Residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
- Exposure to fumes, dust, and weather (exterior work).
- Flexible hours (some weekends/early mornings).
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive pay ($20 - $25 per hour based on experience).
