Overview
The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA), Insurance Linked Securities (ILS), will lead the ratings activities associated with specialized insurers, structured finance, and other entities/products related to the convergence of capital markets and insurance. The SFA will also be involved with creating innovative analytical solutions for new initiatives in the ILS group in conformance with AM Best’s ratings methodologies and criteria procedures. As an analyst in the ILS Group, the SFA is ultimately responsible for maintaining the highest standards of professional excellence and fulfilling AM Best's regulatory obligations as a Nationally Recognized Statistical Ratings Organization.
Responsibilities
- Take the lead in rating select insurance companies and securities under the ILS Group while ensuring that AM Best’s quality, timeliness and compliance standards are consistently met or exceeded
- Participate in rating committees and ensuring that company procedures and standards are consistently followed
- Assist with research and initiatives related to mortgages, insurance company impairments, and other specialized topics in the ILS Group
- Help maintain and document compliance-related and operating standards and procedures
- Help with the preparation of presentations (both external and internal) and webinars
- Contribute to building AM Best’s brand and reputation by representing AM Best in a variety of platforms including seminars, conferences, special reports, analytical comments, and insurance industry and structured finance events
- Assist with surveillance of current transactions – including the re-modelling process, when necessary
- Help with the maintenance of the ILS Group's Matlab Programs
- Assist the Credit Ratings and Criteria Group in the production and modification of criteria related to ILS transactions
- Assist with verifying critical elements of the Financial Guarantor, CDO, and Life Settlement Models; including assuring that assumptions are consistent across various models
- When necessary, interact with the external model validator in coordination with the Credit Ratings and Criteria Group
- Assist with the record keeping process by the ILS Group
Qualifications
- 5 to 7 years’ Financial Analysis experience in an insurance company, rating agency, or financial institution is required
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Actuarial Science
- Advanced degree or professional designation is preferred (CFA, Actuarial, MBA, ACAS, etc)
Skills
• The candidate should have an aptitude for quantitative/statistical methods • Experience with Matlab or a strong aptitude for learning to use the application for modeling purposes • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required • Strong knowledge of property/casualty actuarial methods • Good communication skills and an ability to interact effectively with internal and external clients • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English • Self-starter and pro-active in bringing new ideas and solutions to the table and actively seeking knowledge • Demonstrated ability to manage own time efficiently and effectively
