Summary/Objective
The Mechanic performs repair work on diesel trucks and equipment. The work load will involve repairing, inspection and routine maintenance of light, medium and heavy trucks.
To be successful in this position, the Mechanic must demonstrate the ability to perform work required in a timely manner in order to meet service schedules and commitments. He/she must understand and carry out oral and written instructions and/or repair orders to determine the work that has been performed and that still needing to be done.
The right candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management staff, employees, and vendors.
Salary:
Salary is at an hourly rate, based on experience starting around low to mid $20's (per hour).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

The individual in this position will be required to remember and understand certain instructions, guidelines or other information. They must be able to see and verbally communicate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be required to move frequently- stand, walk, stoop, kneel and sit. The mechanic is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and to reach with hands and arms. This individual must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs/23kg.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Core days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Will require some road service calls and evenings/weekends on an as needed basis. (30 minute lunch break 12pm-12:30pm)

Essential Functions
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment are kept in good working condition to avoid delays in production
- Ability to work on various makes/models of vehicles, including -but not limited to – Ford, International, Cummins, and CAT, Hino, Sterling, Kenworth and Mack
- Ability to use manufactures’ manuals and schematics
- Ability to troubleshoot/diagnose and repair components of vehicle equipment, i.e., engines, transmissions, differentials, ignition systems, charging systems etc
- Ability to troubleshoot/diagnose and repair electrical systems, i.e., lighting systems, electronic control systems etc
- Ability to perform all routine preventative maintenance of entire fleet from light to heavy duty
- Ensure all tools are maintained and work area is kept clean
- Apply knowledge of air compressors, generators, shooters and, boilers

- Minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience required
- Must have the ability to work unsupervised
- Must have strong background in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials)
- Must provide own tools
- Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (hand and power tools) required
- A valid driver’s license is required (with an acceptable driving history)
- Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred
- Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions required
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
- VA state inspection license is a plus
- Certifications are welcome but not necessary
