Position Summary
Amacon, one of Canada’s foremost real estate development, construction and property management firms, is looking for a Project Accountant to fill a 12-month contract. The Project Accountant, reporting to the Manager of Project Accounting, is responsible for accurate and timely project accounting. The ideal candidate requires strong time management skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the flexibility to support dynamic needs of the team.
Position Responsibilities
- Accounts Payable; review, organize, track, and process a high-volume of vendor invoices ensuring accuracy, documentation, and authorization
- Coordinate signing of cheques
- Review and setup of contracts and commitments for assigned projects
- Respond to queries from project managers and other team members inside and outside of accounting
- Assist in the preparation of various reconciliations including credit cards, commissions, contracts, holdbacks, and chargebacks on a regular basis, and, investigate discrepancies
- Perform support functions including filing, scanning and other ad hoc requests
- Ensure that the Policies and Procedures of the Accounting Department are adhered to as well as all regulatory requirements
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with all team members inside and outside of accounting at all levels within the organization
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Other duties and tasks as assigned
Experience & Qualifications
- Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree and working towards an accounting designation
- Experience: 2-3 years’ accounting experience in a development and construction accounting environment
- Asset: experience with Yardi
- Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to meet tight timelines while managing multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Internal control oriented
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Willing to take on new tasks and projects with a team based focus
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
