Amalgamated Bank is looking for a Sr. Director of Risk Management.This role will reside within the Firm’s Enterprise Risk Management Department. As a Sr. Director of Risk Management in the second line of defense, your role would encompass overseeing and managing both operational risk and model risks associated with the Enterprise. Your key responsibilities may include:  


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Operational Risk Management:
    1. Developing and maintaining the operational risk framework, policies, procedures, and methodologies to identify, assess, monitor, and control operational risks. 
    2. Facilitating conducting risk assessments (RCSAs) with the 1st LoD and other stakeholders to identify and assess operational risks across the organization. This involves analyzing processes, systems, and controls to identify potential risks and ensuring that risk assessments are conducted effectively. 
    3. Leads educational efforts for 1st LoD staff across the Functions to ensure awareness of and adherence to policies, standards, and procedures, disseminating best-practice guidance. 
    4. Collaborating with various business units to oversee development and implementation of risk mitigation strategies and control measures. 
    5. Monitoring and reporting on operational risk trends, issues, and mitigation efforts to senior management and relevant stakeholders. 
    6. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to operational risk management.
    7. Establishing the Bank’s risk appetite and risk limits for operational risk. Ensuring that risk-taking activities are within the defined limits and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies as necessary. 
    8. Creating scenarios and related analytics for quantifying tail risk (adverse and severely adverse). 
  2. Risk Governance and Reporting:
    1. Providing oversight and guidance on risk governance processes and controls within the organization.
    2. Developing and implementing risk reporting mechanisms to communicate operational and third-party risk profiles to senior management, board committees, and regulators. 
    3. Collaborating with internal audit, and other stakeholders to address risk-related issues and findings.
  3. Risk Measurement and Reporting:
    1. Developing key risk indicators (KRIs) and other metrics to measure and monitor operational and enterprise risks. 
    2. Preparing regular risk reports for senior management, board committees, and regulators, providing insights into the organization’s risk profile and effectiveness of risk management practices. 


Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements: 

Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  2. 8 years of experience in Operational risk/Enterprise Risk Management in financial services industry.
  1. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and an ability to present ideas concisely and persuasively communications skills.
  2. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and align risk management initiatives with organization’s goals and objectives. 
  3. Ability to influence the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to relationships.
  1. Demonstrate strong relationship building, business judgment, problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  1. Demonstrated experience in responding to regulatory requests.
  2. Knowledge of risk management frameworks, risk taxonomies and methodologies.
  1. Experience within a financial institution.

Desired

  1. Knowledge of GRC software solutions.
  2. Knowledge of Model Risk Management.
  3. Industry certifications in Risk Management.



Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $165,000.00 – $180,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
