Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Controller to join our finance team in Boise, Idaho. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of corporate accounting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, managing financial reporting processes, and driving improvements in accounting procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate accounting, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations. The Assistant Controller will report to the Director of Finance and Controller.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain the general ledger, including account changes, business unit changes, cost allocations, and reporting codes.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Oversee the preparation and management of corporate financial statements, ensuring they are accurate, timely, and compliant with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Supervise a team of accountants, providing leadership, guidance, and mentorship to foster professional growth and team success.
- Prepare and review financial reports and variance analyses to provide insights into financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors for the preparation of annual financial statements and audits, ensuring all necessary documents are provided and queries are addressed promptly.
- Collaborate with other departments (internal and external), to ensure the smooth flow of financial information across the organization.
- Identify and drive process improvements and efficiencies in the corporate accounting function.
- Support senior management with financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of compliance with external partners.
- Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as required by senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred, or equivalent professional certification.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting software.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (Hubble insight, JDE)
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
