Job Type : Part-Time 20-25 hours a week
Position Summary :
Amare, in partnership with St. Vincent de Paul seeks a compassionate and dedicated Peer Recovery Coach to provide recovery support services to individuals experiencing housing insecurity and addiction recovery challenges. This part-time position focuses on fostering stability, wellness, and recovery by leveraging lived experience and peer support to build rapport, provide guidance, and connect participants with essential resources. This role requires a strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by the unhoused population and a commitment to fostering stability and wellness in their recovery journey.
Qualifications :
- Minimum of 1 year of lived experience in recovery (required).
- Bachelors degree in social work, psychology, substance use disorder counseling, or equivalent experience in addiction recovery (preferred).
- Experience with housing insecurity or working with the unhoused population (preferred).
- Understanding of motivational interviewing techniques and the ability to apply them effectively.
- Knowledge of recovery capital, the dimensions of wellness and the factors that support sustained recovery.
- Willingness to obtain Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) certification and complete continuing education (CEUs).
- Understanding of trauma informed care, crisis prevention, and suicide prevention.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize them effectively.Maintain accurate and confidential documentationBasic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health record systems.Responsibilities :
Conduct assessments to identify participants strengths, needs and barriers to recovery.Employment coaching : assist participants in identifying employment opportunities, develop job-seeking skills and accessing vocational training or educational resources.Be a beacon of hope for individuals who are in the early stages of change and guide them in the recovery process.Provide recovery support services, including one-on-one peer mentoring and recovery coaching.Assist participants in creating and maintaining recovery management plans.Facilitate groups focused on recovery skills, employment coaching, and life skills development.Connect participants to clinical services, treatment, or other professional resources when needed.Build rapport with participants to foster trust, support, and motivation for change.Commit to ethical practices by adhering to the Illinois CPRS and CRSS Code of Ethics.Engage in community outreach, coalition building, and advocacy for unhoused individuals.Promote recovery capital by supporting participants in building resources, relationships, and skills.Deliver trauma-informed and culturally competent care.Skills and Competencies :
Strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by the unhoused population.Ability to build positive, supportive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.Knowledge of multiple recovery pathways such as 12-step foundation, SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, LifeRing and others, including medication assisted recovery, harm reduction and person-centered approaches.Effective communication, crisis intervention, and problem-solving skills.Commitment to fostering stability, resilience, and empowerment in recovery journeys.Benefits :
