Job Summary:
We are looking for a dedicated and reliable Kitchen Steward who can support our kitchen team with cleaning and organizing duties while also assisting with basic food preparation tasks. This role combines the responsibilities of maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment with the opportunity to learn and participate in food prep for the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities:
Kitchen Steward Duties:
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment thoroughly and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, storage areas, and walk-ins.
- Take out trash and ensure proper disposal of waste and recyclables.
- Clean kitchen floors, walls, and other surfaces regularly.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management when supplies are low.
- Ensure all kitchen tools and equipment are properly sanitized and stored.
- Comply with all safety and sanitation regulations.
Prep Cook Duties:
- Assist in food preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables, fruits, and proteins.
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and kitchen guidelines.
- Ensure food is properly stored and labeled according to health and safety standards.
- Help with portioning and plating food when needed.
- Assist in assembling food orders for service.
- Follow directions from the head chef or prep cook to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of dishes.
- Maintain a clean and organized prep station at all times.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a kitchen environment (as a steward, dishwasher, or prep cook) is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a hot, busy environment.
- Must be flexible with hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous experience with food preparation or kitchen prep.
- Understanding of kitchen equipment and basic cooking techniques.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.
Working Conditions:
- The position involves working in a kitchen environment with exposure to hot surfaces, sharp tools, and cleaning chemicals.
- The role requires standing, bending, lifting, and carrying items of up to 50 lbs.
