Primary Purpose:
The Education Specialist will support Spanish High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), including Open Educational Resources (OER) such as Spanish Bluebonnet, for elementary Reading Language Arts (RLA) and Math. This role provides technical assistance and professional development to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional activities that meet the unique needs of bilingual and Spanish-speaking student populations. The specialist will help LEAs create effective, data-driven planning processes using student, campus, and district data to improve instruction, meet accountability requirements, and ensure the strategic use of HQIM.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree preferred
- Texas teaching certification required
Skills
- Fluent in Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing) required
- Experience teaching elementary Spanish RLA and Spanish Math preferred
- Experience teaching elementary RLA required
- Experience teaching elementary Math preferred
- TCMPC(TEKS RS/TCR) experience preferred
- Texas Teaching experience required
- Demonstrated ability to set goals and creatively problem-solve
- Must be service-oriented and display initiative
- Demonstrated ability to manage time, calendar, job responsibilities, and travel
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team setting required

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provides effective, research-based elementary Spanish RLA and Math instructional support for campuses in Region 16 (e.g., ESC-designated instructional coaching model, professional development, PLC support, grading of artifacts, etc.)
- Provides elementary Spanish RLA and Math content, best practices, and pedagogical expertise in technical assistance and professional development to support the improvement of instructional practices for monitoring and evaluating student learning
- Collaborates with colleagues in and beyond the ESC to identify professional development needs through detailed data analysis and self-reflection to provide quality services to customers that positively impact student learning
- Sets modifies, and meets short- and long-term professional goals based on self-assessment, reflection, peer and supervisor feedback, contemporary research, and analysis of student learning
- Provides state-mandated trainings, if applicable
- Clearly articulates the work plan while adhering to all departmental protocols for work-from-home and hybrid work arrangements, as applicable.
- Creates ongoing collegial relationships with customers
- Travels as a part of job responsibilities.
- Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the service area director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged, activated, messages checked, and mailbox emptied regularly.

- Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16.
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters.
