This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - Graphic Design who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in Graphic Design. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in classroom, laboratory, online courses, tech supported classes, and in immediate preparation for respective courses; and preparing teaching materials.
This position is filled on an as needed basis, contingent upon institutional needs.
Qualifications
EDUCATION :
Required : Associate's Degree in Graphic Design or related field.
Preferred : Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design or related field.
EXPERIENCE :
Required : Three (3) years of experience in graphic or commercial art.
Preferred :
- Four (4) years of applicable experience, including computer graphics work.
One (1) or more years of teaching experience at the college level.
Experience using Mac software with a strong working knowledge of In-Design, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Teach technical, creative, artistic, and / or graphic design skills for institutional support activities, both manually and by computer graphics.
Educate students on appropriate typographical and illustrative styles to fit the content of manuscripts and how to design and develop charts, graphics, posters, laminates, flat-art mounting, and lettering.
Instruct students how to prepare color illustrations for publications, posters, programs, slides, and photographs using a variety of techniques.
Provide instruction on application of visual communication, publishing, Web development, Web design, concept development, layouts, product design, camera-ready art, Web-compatible art / graphics and coordinating print and Web promotional activities.
Teach assigned course(s) utilizing appropriate and engaging instructional methods and techniques.
Create engaging lesson plans that promote student involvement and application of the material.
Submit college reports and forms in a timely manner.
Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
Advise students before / after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
Evaluate students to measure their progress.
Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
Participate in course and curriculum development, revision and evaluation.
Design and implement assessments to measure student learning outcomes.
Maintain accurate and timely records of student attendance and academic performance.
Perform effective teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.
Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.
Perform other work-related duties as required.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment : This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio / video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
