This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Part-Time Peer Tutor - Hereford who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide academic support to students through individual and small-group instruction, both in and outside the classroom. This role is designed to assist students proactively or remedially, helping them build confidence and master course material. The mission of the Academic Success Center (ASC) is to empower students by offering academic resources, learning strategies, and faculty collaboration to foster independent, engaged, and successful learners.
Qualifications
EDUCATION :
Required : Completion of freshman level college courses, and an overall GPA of 3.0.
Preferred : Completion of sophomore level college courses, including 2 or more courses with an overall 3.0 GPA
EXPERIENCE :
Required : Previous tutoring in a high school or college setting.
Preferred : Previous tutoring experience in college-level courses.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
- Provide students with learning strategies such as study skills, note-taking skills, and test-taking strategies.
- Provide supplemental instruction to students, either individual or group setting, to improve academic performance.
- Organize the tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
- Develop tutoring materials for students.
- Support the operation of the Hereford Tutoring Center during business hours.
- Support the mission of the Hereford Academic Success Center as stated in the Tutor Code of Conduct.
- Communicate with faculty with regards to student needs and / or tutoring completion.
- Embed in courses and stay up to date on material while building professional relationships to increase retention with students.
- Participate in and complete performance assessments / evaluations as assigned.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Salary : Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 6 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to lift, carry, and push, pull and / or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Work Conditions : This is a part time position budgeted for a maximum of 19 hours per week.
Work Environment : This position works in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines and filing cabinets.
