This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Student Support Assistant who will be all-in on our mission and who will manage the Success Center Lab on West Campus, provide tutor support, support technical education students' learning needs, and help career and technical education students with coursework learning outcomes.
This is a Grant Funded position. Continued employment is contingent on grant funding.
Qualifications
EDUCATION :
Required : Associate Degree in a Health Profession.
Preferred : Bachelor Degree in a Health Profession.
EXPERIENCE :
Required : One (1) year ofclinical experience in healthcare business and / or industry.
Preferred : Experience in education and / or basic skills training; experience working with adult learners; experience with tutoring one-on-one and in group settings; contextualizing basic skills
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with instructors and professionals in the development of individual students' needs and progress.
- Collaborate with other college departments and programs to administer pre-assessment and progress assessments for West Campus students.
- Review instructional content, methods, and student evaluations to assess strengths and weaknesses to support best practices for instruction for improving student achievement.
- Assist the Supervisor of the West Campus Academic Success Center and other team members as needed.
- Provide tutoring and effective study skills and test-taking strategies.
- Teach critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and help students improve professionalism for success in the workplace and academic settings.
- Communicate digitally with students regarding retention and announcements.
- Assist students with comprehensive understanding of course learning outcomes.
- Set up / maintain lab area / industry workspace.
- Refer students to appropriate resources within the college to meet student needs and improve success and retention.
- Assist with new student orientations, pre-admission test preparation, and other events as requested.
- Record student clock hours daily using Go Trac and Student Engagement Portal.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training and CRLA trainings as required or needed in order to maintain and improve professional development.
- Manage Success Center operating hours which may include some evening hours.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Salary : Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade 9 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and / or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Work Environment : This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
