What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025-2026 High School Associate Principal position at Amarillo Independent School District?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assume certain principal responsibilities as assigned and serve in the absence of the principal as the senior administrative officer on the campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Master's Degree
Valid teaching certificate
Texas principal or other appropriate Texas administrative certificate
Preferred: Advanced Education Leadership (AEL) certification, Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD)
Preferred: Certified T-TESS Appraiser
Certification Requirements- All applicants MUST BE FULLY CERTIFIED in order to be considered for the in-person interview. If you do not currently meet the certification requirements for the position, you may apply. HOWEVER, you MUST be fully certified by 8/1/25, and you will not be eligible for an in-person interview until you meet the certification requirements.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrates instructional leadership skills
Ability to do numerical analysis
Strong communications, public relations and interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written comminication; able to present information
Thorough understanding of school operations
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of a mouse; reaching
Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 40 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional districtwide and statewide travel

Regular Attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Prefer three years of campus administrative experience
Three years’ successful experience as a classroom teacher as evidenced by performance appraisals
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Perform all assistant principal duties as listed on the AISD Assistant Principal job description.
- Provide in-depth instructional or management assistance to the principal.
- Assume responsibilities for the initial preparation of the master schedule.
- Provide and evaluate special programs and support services.
- Plan and evaluate special programs and support services.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Abide by State and Federal laws, District policies, campus expectations and Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
