PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and coordinate the music and performing music programs for all schools at all grade levels and to serve as the primary music contact for designated music instructional staff. Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum teacher training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree- Required
Master's Degree- Strongly Preferred
Valid Texas Teacher Certification- Related Field
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to analyze and evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Knowledge of state and UIL policies
Ability to operate a computer proficiently
Basic knowledge of accounting procedures
Manage and coordinate diverse district functions through vertical and horizontal teams comprised of supervisors/ teaching staff and community volunteers
Working knowledge of data processing systems and financial applications
Thorough understanding of school administrative operations
Ability to supervise clerical staff effectively
Ability to understand children and recognize quality work as staff interacts with students and community
Work Conditions:

Minimum Experience:
Ten years of successful experience as teacher or previous employment in similar administrative music position in another district coupled with a record of successful teaching, Other experiences to include: demonstrated success in organizational activities involving a large number of students and staff, demonstrated leadership, community involvement, evidence of being a team player and interest in all areas of music to include general music, choir, band, and orchestra.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Monitor and assess the quality of the music program through class visitations and performance attendance, fine arts activities, other formal and informal presentations.
- Plan, monitor and work with secondary staff in UIL competition and other competitive activities.
- Develop curriculum with staff to include evaluation, assessment, alignment with Texas Essential knowledge and Skills and material studied, and plans revisions to adjust areas of concern as highlighted through student performance and monitors reflection of primary objectives as demonstrated in each program area.
- Oversee the maintenance and updating of the fixed assets inventory and the central music library
- Present staff development as needed to develop a quality teaching staff and appropriate effective instructional delivery to all students.
- Chair and facilitate the music textbook/materials adoption committees.
- Work with staff to integrate the music program in order to enhance school improvement efforts.
- Keep abreast of current practices and theories by monitoring the practices of districts over the state, evaluating demonstrated results, and assisting teachers in adaptation of new practices to improve the music program of the district.
- Conduct informal observations of staff, prepares documentation and builds a support system for successful teachers and develops intervention plans when needed.
- Supervise the Private Music Lesson Program staff as well as the auxiliary music staff and instrument repair shop.
- Prepare and administer the budget for the district’s music program attending to equity across the District.
- Budget and assist as needed with cluster music concerts including, but not limited to, securing security officers, team activities for clusters and monitors individualized cluster needs.
- Monitor all expenditures and reimbursements involving music students and staff.
- Prepare specifications and calendar for bidding all capital outlay in music in coordination with the purchasing department.
- Facilitate and assist music staff in all aspects of travel both in and out of the district in coordination with the transportation department.
- Work in cooperation with the internal auditor as needed when problems are encountered concerning any and all music funds.
- Is knowledgeable and aware of consistent practices, district policy, State Board rules and regulations to guide teaching staff and parents in solutions to problematic issues.
- Work with Assistant Superintendents, ESC, staff to accomplish the district’s goals and demonstrate team work.
- Work as liaison with Amarillo Music Community to facilitate smooth relations between the district, the organizations and community.
- Maintain ties with UIL Music to keep abreast of activities, procedures, polices throughout the state.
- Work as liaison with Amarillo Symphony Board, Amarillo Youth Symphony Board, Greater Southwest Music Festival, Tri State Fair to facilitate smooth relations between the district, the organizations and community.
- Maintain ties with TMEA, TMA UIL Music Committee to keep abreast of activities, procedures, polices throughout the state.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: All music department staff and paraprofessional staff
