Maintenance Field Groomer

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, operate various equipment and maintain AISD athletic fields in a

condition of playing excellence

QUALIFICATIONS:

      Minimum Education:         

      A high school diploma or GED, preferred

      Certification / License:

      Must possess a valid Driver’s license

      Special Knowledge/Skills:

      General knowledge of landscape maintenance

      General knowledge of turf culture care

      Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions

      General knowledge of the Maintenance Department’s organization and operation

      Ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision

      Organizational, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the

      goals of the position

      Ability to operate tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner

      Work Conditions:      

      Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment

      including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower

      Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and

      twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

      Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension,

      and overhead reaching; frequent driving

      Lifting: Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 40

      pounds of force frequently to repair and/or move equipment and objects

      Environment: Frequent changes in tasks; Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking

      surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures and all weather

      conditions, dust, high noise level, vibration; exposure to chemicals including herbicides

      and fertilizers, fuels and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts;

      may work alone; regularly work irregular or prolonged days/hours; frequent districtwide

      travel

      Mental Demands: Frequent changes in task; maintain emotional control under stress

      Regular attendance is an essential function

      Minimum Experience:

      One year experience of lawn maintenance or related field is preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Provide cultural care of athletic turf through routine scheduled mowing.
2. Assist work crews, as assigned, with field maintenance, repair and preparations.
3. Routinely inspect the condition of the turf both before and after mowing to identify poor turf heath.
4. Maintain inventory for assigned equipment and supplies.
5. Service mower engines and mower hydraulic/mechanical parts and accessories.
6. Follow routine mowing and maintenance procedures for athletic fields to maintain a high standard of safety, playability, and cleanliness.
7. Transport necessary equipment to various job sites.
8. Perform work order record keeping and other documentation.
9. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
10. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
11. Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
