What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Fine Arts Education position at Amarillo ISD?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Direct and coordinate the fine arts programs (i.e. art, theatre arts, speech, debate, dance) for all schools at all grade levels and to serve as the primary fine arts contact for designated fine arts instructional staff. Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum teacher training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree/Preferred Master’s Degree
Valid Texas Teacher Certification- Related Field

Strong communication, public relations, organizational and
interpersonal skills
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to analyze and evaluate instructional programs and
teaching effectiveness
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Knowledge of state and UIL policies
Basic knowledge of accounting procedures
Manage and coordinate diverse district functions through vertical and
horizontal teams comprised of supervisors/ teaching staff and
community volunteers
Working knowledge of data processing systems and financial applications
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal
computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting; bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Minimum Experience:
- Ten years of successful experience as a fine arts teacher or previous employment in a similar position in another district coupled with a record of successful teaching.
- Other experience to include: demonstrated success in organizational activities associated with the fine arts program involving a large number of students and staff, demonstrated leadership, community involvement, and evidence of being a team player.
MAJOR RESPNSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Instructional
- Monitor and assess the quality of the fine arts program through class visitations and performance Management attendance, fine arts activities, and other formal and informal presentations
- Plan, monitor, and work with secondary staff in UIL competition and other competitive activities.
- Develop curriculum with staff to include evaluation, assessment, alignment with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, and material studies
- Plan revisions to adjust areas of concern as highlighted through student performance and monitor reflection of primary objectives as demonstrated in each program area.
- Present staff development as needed to develop a quality teaching staff and appropriate effective instructional delivery to all students.
- Chairs and facilitates the fine arts textbook adoption committees
- Work with staff to integrate the fine arts program in order to enhance school improvement efforts.
- Organizational/Personnel
- Keep abreast of current practices, theories by monitoring the practices of districts over the state,
- evaluating demonstrated results, and assisting teachers in the adaptation of new practices to improve the fine arts program of the district.
- Conduct informal observations of staff, prepare documentation and build a support system for successful teachers and develop intervention plans when needed.
- Fiscal Management
- Prepare and administer the budget for the district’s fine arts program, attending to equity across the district.
- Budget and assist as needed in fine arts competitions and performances.
- Monitor all expenditures and reimbursements involving fine arts students and staff.
- Prepare specifications and calendar for bidding all capital outlay in fine arts in coordination with the purchasing department.
- Facilitate and assist fine arts staff in all aspects of travel both in and out of the district in coordination with the transportation department.
- Budget and assist as needed with cluster fine arts activities and monitor individualized feeder pattern needs.
- Work in cooperation with the internal auditor as needed when problems are encountered concerning any and all fine arts funds.
- Program Management
- Ensure consistent practices, follow district policy, State Board rules and regulations to guide teaching staff and parents in solutions to problematic issues.
- Work with Chief Officers, Assistant Superintendents, ESC, and staff to accomplish the district’s goals and demonstrate teamwork.
- Work as liaison with Amarillo Arts Community and Tri State Fair to facilitate smooth relations between the district, the organizations, and the community.
- Maintain ties with UIL Fine Arts to keep abreast of activities, procedures, and polices throughout the state.
