PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Effect the efficient operation of office routines and practices associated with a busy Child Nutrition Department by processing, verifying and reporting all meal applications according to government regulations and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent
>40 WPM typing test
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Accurate typing and ten-key skills, familiarity with computer applications such as spreadsheets and word processing
Strong communication, public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to meet deadlines and remain organized
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
Excellent problem solving skills
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals, mobile computing device
Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing and walking, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
Motion: Possess manual dexterity for repetitive hand motions including prolonged keyboarding & use of mouse; moderate reaching
Lifting: Lifting, carrying and transporting objects (up to 40 pounds)
Environment: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain professional demeanor under stress; frequent districtwide travel
Regular attendance is an essential function
Minimum Experience:
Three or more years in school system bookkeeping OR five years’ experience in general clerical/bookkeeping responsibilities- required
Three or more years in a school system or child nutrition department- preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Conduct the student eligibility process, including direct certification and applications. Ensures that applications are correctly processed in a timely manner, and completes the yearly verification process.
- Responsible for verification procedures for free and reduced-price meals, including verification status results report; report to be submitted to TDA by the designated deadline.
- Administer the approval and centralization of meal applications under the guidelines of the National School Lunch Program
- Assure that meal application processing and meal collections handling in the free and reduced-price meal program for qualified students meets current government regulations.
- Work cooperatively with all district personnel and parents to resolve any problems regarding meal applications/benefits
- Assure adherence of food service programs to federal, state, and local laws and regulations and district requirements concerning such matters as sanitation, safety, free and reduced-price meals for qualified students, and nutritional standards of various meal programs.
- Maintain and update student free and reduced meal status records and send current information to Child Nutrition Managers.
- Maintain District download and uploads from TXUNPS.
- Review and/or complete any related paperwork on a timely basis while complying with District, State and Federal Regulations.
- Attend Meal Application Processor course each year for updates, TDA changes and regulations.
- Write and distribute memos, letters, reports and other correspondence as requested.
- Resolve issues in a timely fashion and consistently keep track of details.
- Operate a computer system (Dell) running MS Windows, MS Word, Skyward, and Excel
- Maintain a positive atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Manage software service calls and turn in software service requests and enhancements.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
- Perform such other tasks and accepts such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
