What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Ed/504 ARD Mtg. Facilitator position at Amarillo ISD?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for coordination, planning, maintenance and preparation of compliance documents and educational records for students eligible for Special Education/504 services according to State and Federal guidelines. Responsible for chairing, or co-chairing, ARD/504 meetings, and serving multiple campuses. (195 day position)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s Degree
Current and valid Texas Teacher Certificate- required
Special Education Certification- preferred
Diagnostician certification- not required/Working towards Diagnostician certification- preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state, local laws, and guidelines and procedures
Knowledge of disabilities, diagnostic procedures and instructional strategies appropriate for disabled students
Experience in adapting and implementing curriculum to meet individual learning and behavioral needs
Knowledge about instructional materials, technology, and state evaluation methods
Skill in working with computer tools, including but not limited to, email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets
Skill in working in collaborative team-based environments
Skill in working with and presenting to diverse populations of students, parents, and community members
Ability to exercise good judgment in decision making, especially in difficult circumstances
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills both written and oral
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, prolonged use of computer
Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
Environment: Exposure to biological hazards; requires district-wide travel, some statewide and out of state travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; ability to problem solve, interpret data and acquire and apply new skills and knowledge; ability to resolve conflicts; ability to adapt and be flexible in multiple environments

Minimum Experience:
3 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher (special education preferred)
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Schedule, or assist in scheduling, Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD)/504 meetings and notify parents of the ARD/504 meeting, including distribution of ARD/504 calendar to appropriate ARD/504 Committee members in a timely fashion; notify all appropriate school personnel of ARD/504 meetings and schedule changes.
- Ensure that program elements are completed in applicable cases; Ensure federal/state/District timelines are met with respect to functions of ARD/Committee/504 Meetings
- Request for additional assessments and meet required timelines set by ARD/504 Committee.
- Monitor ARD/504 paperwork completed by campus personnel.
- Complete ARD/504 paperwork to official audit file within 72 hours of the meeting and update PEIMS information accordingly within 48 hours of the ARD/504 meeting.
- Provide for systematic communication among campus personnel with respect to ARD/504 meetings and decisions, IEPs, accommodations needed in the general education setting, relevant instructional concerns and progress.
- Assist campus administrator(s) to ensure compliance with mandates for discipline due process guaranteed to students with disabilities by state/federal law.
- Ensure compliance with local policies and procedures outlined for this population.
- Maintain thorough documentation regarding any significant problems with ARD /504 Committee procedures
- Attend staff meetings as well as relevant professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws and regulations, and local board policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
