The Diesel Mechanic
Position Type : Full-time (40 hours / week, Monday-Friday; holiday weeks require Saturday work)
Job Overview :
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing the company's fleet, including trash trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles. The role ensures compliance with DOT regulations and company standards, focusing on hydraulics, electrical systems, and overall fleet reliability .
Key Responsibilities :
Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy diesel vehicles.
Conduct preventive maintenance (oil changes, greasing, tire inspections, etc.).
Review Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and generate work orders.
Handle field service calls and emergency repairs as needed.
Maintain accurate documentation of repairs and order necessary parts.
Follow all safety protocols , including lockout / tagout procedures.
Work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
Perform welding or fabrication tasks as approved by management.
Qualifications :
- Proven experience with heavy diesel vehicles , including diagnostics, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems (engines, transmissions, braking, etc.).
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in physically demanding environments.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, clean MVR, and be at least 21 years old .
- Personal set of mechanic tools is required.
- High-visibility outerwear required for safety compliance
