The AWS Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Capacity Org is seeking a seasoned applied optimization expert to join the Optimization Science Team. This crucial role involves designing, implementing, and scaling decision-making algorithms that manage EC2's virtual and physical capacity systems.
As a part of the EC2 Capacity team, you will be responsible for overseeing EC2's top-level customer satisfaction metric of capacity availability and the forecasting and decision-making systems that guide significant capital expenditures in server ordering for AWS data centers. The Optimization Science team plays a key role in designing and implementing diverse decision-making systems that address the balance between capex and capacity availability while aligning demand and supply across different planning horizons.
We are looking for a candidate with :
- A PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a relevant field. A Master’s degree with additional experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in addressing large-scale optimization challenges.
- A proven record of delivering impactful analytical solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of exact and heuristic methods for solving complex optimization problems such as resource allocation and network design.
- Strong expertise in continuous and discrete optimization methods, including proficiency with tools like CPLEX and Gurobi.
- Experience in high-level modeling languages (e.g., AMPL, R, Matlab) and traditional programming languages (e.g., Python, Java).
- Familiarity with SQL and handling large data sets, as well as scripting skills in languages like Python or Perl.
- Excellent communication skills to document analyses and present findings effectively.
