Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 HyperPlane, Nat Gateway Team is looking for a software development manager to join our development team in Seattle, WA.
Service Owner, NAT Gateway Role Overview
As the Service Owner for the NAT Gateway service, you will play a critical role in driving the strategic direction and execution of one of the top revenue-generating services in the EC2 Network portfolio. The NAT Gateway service is a multi-billion dollar contributor to the overall business.
Our team tackles real world problems that don’t generally have ready-made solutions. For example, how do you ensure customers can scale their application quickly to handle traffic spikes and then back down in a matter of minutes? How do you design a load balancing solution that allows customers to quickly and easily achieve the highest levels of fault tolerance using Amazon EC2?
In this role, you will own the roadmap for your team and manage day-to-day development activities, participate in architecture decisions, design reviews, and represent your team to EC2 leadership. You will mentor and lead engineers, and grow them to embody best practices. Within the team, you will serve as a leader who defines the group’s priorities and vision. You will collaborate with teams within EC2 and AWS to create the best in class solutions for our customers worldwide!
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every three months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.
About The Team
A NAT gateway is a Network Address Translation (NAT) service. You can use a NAT gateway so that instances in a private subnet can connect to services outside your VPC but external services cannot initiate a connection with those instances. Nat is built on top of EC2 and uses Elasticast and ENI Trunking for highly available, multi-tenant and cost-effective solutions.
Our mission is to innovate and support existing customer workloads and, over the next 5 years, build a highly scalable, available and durable network state store service usable by any and all compute workloads running in AWS that requires network state tracking.
Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Basic Qualifications
- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
