We own the design, planning, delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This includes all AWS data centers and all servers, storage, networking, power and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
You will join a diverse team of software, hardware and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers and other vital roles. You will collaborate with people across AWS to help deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
AWS is looking for a results-oriented manager to lead all delivery of critical water infrastructure in the eastern US. In this role you will support AWS's infrastructure expansion by leading a team of water and engineering professionals to deliver large-scale, sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure projects across multiple AWS regions in AMER East.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a diverse team owning the end-to-end scope for Utilities, Owner's Engineers, and General Contractors to deliver water and wastewater infrastructure on time, on budget and to AWS specifications.
- Develop and execute water supply and infrastructure strategies that leverage capital projects to accelerate delivery of water.
- Serve as a point of escalation with local water utilities to understand and coordinate site utility requirements, site inspections and compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements.
- Work with utility regulators and policy makers to implement policies that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
- Identify and develop innovative or sustainable water initiatives related to water infrastructure and supply.
- Oversee and develop standards of operational excellence around the commissioning and testing of water infrastructure assets, including the development of emergency operations plans and back-up supply plans for new datacenter campus developments.
- Interface with internal engineering, operations, real estate and environmental health and safety and legal teams to develop and implement solutions in rural areas that often lack adequate available water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Up to 25% travel as needed for project execution, utility meetings and regional coordination where authorized.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong water and project management background, a proven track record of delivering infrastructure projects and experience managing high-impact fast-paced teams. The candidate will have experience working with regulated electric utilities to develop, negotiate, contract and deliver medium and high voltage power infrastructure and related tariffs and agreements. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing day-to-day interactions with these partners, you and your team will be responsible for ensuring water requirements needed to support AWS's global infrastructure expansion are met.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Planning or Mechanical/Chemical/Civil Engineering
- 7 years of project-related experience working with local or state government agencies, utilities, site development due diligence and/or permitting entities
- Experience reading and interpreting schematic engineering and construction drawings and equipment specifications and able to carry design concepts from exploration and development through deployment and scalable implementation
- Experience overseeing and developing a cross-functional, inclusive and diverse team of water professionals or professional project managers that oversee large-scale capital budgets and delivery schedules
- Strong understanding of civil/mechanical/plumbing related to data centers or similar buildings that use water infrastructure such as pumps, cooling towers, evaporative media, heat exchangers, air handling units or air economizers
- 10 years of direct experience with the construction, operation or maintenance of water infrastructure or treatment equipment fleet management
- Knowledge of water chemistry and conventional/membrane water treatment technologies for industrial applications
- Advanced degree in Urban Planning or Mechanical/Chemical/Environmental/Civil Engineering
- Experience with fast track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects
- Analytical mindset that can identify gaps in requirements during project development, predict performance and have the ability to provide recommendations on a short notice and with limited information
- Knowledge or skills in SQL or data analytics tools such as Tableau
