The WHS Data team is hiring a Data Engineer (DE). The Data team spans the Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Engineering (DE) functional areas, and is responsible for providing all reporting solutions required by the WHS Organization to drive workplace safety and regulatory compliance worldwide. This DE role will primarily support the data and infrastructure needs for the Environmental and Assurance Protection (EAP) team in the WHS Organization. This role drives the design and implementation of data solutions within the Workplace Health and Safety domain, leveraging advanced AWS technologies and big data platforms to deliver scalable data architecture components. The position focuses on solving complex data warehousing challenges through automated ETL processes, optimized model deployments, and robust analytics tools that enable self-service capabilities. Working directly with stakeholders and technical partners, this role translates business requirements into actionable solutions while maintaining high standards of data governance and system performance. The role also champions innovation by evaluating emerging technologies, implementing best practices, and continuously enhancing the data infrastructure to meet evolving business needs.
Key job responsibilities
- Architect and deliver enterprise-scale data infrastructure solutions, enabling robust dataset management and advanced business intelligence capabilities
- Build and orchestrate complex ETL processes across diverse data sources using SQL and AWS technologies, collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
- Drive data architecture decisions through comprehensive technical documentation and evidence-based recommendations to stakeholder teams
- Streamline reporting workflows and implement automated solutions to enhance stakeholder self-service capabilities and operational efficiency
- Lead strategic initiatives with BI and technology partners to optimize data pipelines, improve data accessibility, and enhance infrastructure performance
- Learn and influence adoption of latest AWS technologies to expand platform capabilities and drive operational excellence

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience with SQL
- Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS
- Experience with distributed systems as it pertains to data storage and computing
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of data engineering experience
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent
- Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
- Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
- Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)
- Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
