What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Software Dev Engineer, Clarity position at Amazon?
DESCRIPTION
Are you a talented SDE looking to join a dynamic team building a data analytics platform? Clarity Metrics Marketplace (CMM) is seeking an SDE III to help design and develop the foundational services, UI, and backend automation that powers our self-service data onboarding and metrics creation platform.
About the platform:
Clarity Metrics Marketplace (CMM) is a new platform that enables data and analytics teams across the People eXperience and Technology (PXT) organization to quickly and easily onboard their own data and metrics into the Clarity reporting system.
Clarity is Amazon's single source of truth for core and common people metrics, empowering HR and business leaders across the company to make data-driven decisions. Prior to CMM, Clarity had over 900 available metrics, but there were still many additional metrics owned by various PXT teams that were not integrated. Onboarding each new dataset into Clarity was a significant effort for the Clarity engineering team, limiting their ability to keep up with growing customer demands.
CMM solves this by providing a self-service, scalable mechanism for PXT data and analytics teams to directly onboard their datasets, existing metrics, and build new custom metrics within the Clarity platform. This federates metric ownership and management to the domain experts, while providing a consistent, governed frontend experience for all Clarity customers.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in serverless technologies and data engineering AWS tooling. You should be comfortable building developer tools and experiences for other technical users like data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and business analysts. The services and workflows you build will need to scale to support hundreds of data teams across PXT, enabling them to build and publish metrics in parallel using automated self-service processes.
Key job responsibilities
As a senior engineer, you will:
1) Have significant influence on overall product strategy and system architecture.
2) Be involved in every aspect of the process – from idea generation, business analysis and technical design through software development using the latest technologies and design patterns.
3) Collaborate with Software Development Engineers, Applied Scientists, Data Engineers, Product Managers, UX Designers to ensure the best experience for our customers.
4) Design highly available, scalable, and efficient systems and mentor junior engineers to do the same.
5) Solve hard problems in handling high volume of data and scaling our infrastructure.
A day in the life
As an SDE III on the CMM team, you will be responsible for creating scalable solutions to facilitate dataset onboarding, access control, metadata management, data preprocessing/modeling workflows, and the metrics creation/testing experience. You will help define and implement the end-to-end CMM governance model to ensure secure access to PXT data, adherence to privacy regulations, and centralized auditing.
