- Hours: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.; varied shifts (to equal 40 hours per week)
- No weekends
- Six paid holidays

Job Title: Shipping Specialist
Department: Fulfillment Pharmacy Operations
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Functions
Responsible for the daily operations of the pharmacy and shipping department. Responsible for the accuracy of shipping addresses on all shipped items. Responsible for all time-sensitive shipments going out on a daily basis.
Reporting Relations
Reports to: Pharmacy Manager
Direct Reports: None
Primary Responsibilities:
- Follows correct pack-out procedures for all outgoing medications
- Determines the method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
- Monitors weather at shipping locations to select the proper package
- Loads/unloads freezer bricks into the freezer for use with refrigerated shipments
- Uses computer system to ship and track all shipped packages. Generates shipping label for outgoing prescriptions as needed. Monitors and selects the best shipping option to get packages to the patient by the needed date
- Monitor shipping exceptions and arranges alternate delivery with an outside courier company to recover distressed or delayed packages and ensure appropriate delivery arrangements are made
- Takes emergency packages to shipping carrier after cutoff time or delivers to patients’ if needed
- Creates end-of-day shipping manifest; files end-of-day shipment information
- Track missing shipments for patients/facilities. Monitors alerts for packages that did not arrive
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies
- Prepares boxes for future shipments during slow periods
- Maintains adequate inventory of package inserts and educational materials; works with appropriate staff to order or print supplies as needed
- Monitors and alerts all staff of holidays, weather, and other unexpected shipping issues
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages
- Inspect outgoing packages to ensure quality and accuracy of shipment. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure address and postage accuracy
- Work closely with the Pharmacy Manager and Lead Shipping Specialist to ensure all procedures are being followed
- Adheres to all company policies as indicated in the handbook and directives issued by management
- Maintains professionalism at all times and works as a team member with all other employees in a courteous, respectful and cooperative manner
- Assist with other projects as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Lead Shipping Specialist
- Adheres to all company policies as indicated in the handbook and directives issued by management. Has reviewed the Policy and Procedure manual
Professional Competencies:

Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 90% of the time
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., and traverse conferences, meetings, and remote events
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
- The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer)
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment.
Equipment Used to Perform the Job:
Computers, keyboards, mouse, monitors, fax, and/or headsets for phone work. Software specific to the position, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook and Skype. Must lift and traverse the area to move paper and supplies to use the equipment.
