SWING OPERATOR/OPERATOR TRAINEE
Position is for a Swing Operator who will work all three (3) shifts at the Ambridge Water Authority treatment plant.
To be considered for the position of “Certified Operator”, candidate must have a valid and current Class (A) Waterworks Operator License, issued in Pennsylvania, plus all required sub-classes specific to The Ambridge Water Authority Treatment Plant.
To be considered for the position of “Operator Trainee/Relief Operator”, a Class (A) Waterworks Operator License (& applicable sub-class certifications) are not required at time of application, but all are required over the candidates first 4 years of employment. Ba
Please understand that a very high level of responsibility and accountability is required for this position. The Ambridge Water Authority provides water to over 30,000 customers via direct and indirect (bulk) sales. AWA WTP is responsible for purification of water for all of the aforementioned customers. All work of this class is to be performed in accordance w/ the established D.E.P. procedures & standards in place, and by following the AWA WTP specific SOP’s in place, at all times.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (FOR BOTH CERTIFIED OPERATOR & OPERATOR TRAINEE) INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
· Monitoring & washing of filters.
· Proper operation & maintenance of all tools & equipment pertaining to water purification.
· General housekeeping inside and outside the Water Treatment Plant.
· Read/Record readings from various meters
· Keep daily log sheets and calculate daily and monthly usage reports.
· Maintain proper water pressure and water storage levels as required by usage while anticipating daily demands.
· Regulate and adjust chemicals added to the water. (Certified Operator)
· Conduct standard chemical analysis of raw, treated, and finished water. (Tests include alkalinity tests, pH tests, turbidity tests, chlorine residual tests, etc.)
· Perform operation and minor maintenance functions necessary to insure a safe and continuous water supply.
· Perform all work as directed by the Treatment Plant Manager & Chief Operator when appropriate
· Report to the system owner any known violations of any D.E.P. regulations, and any known Permit Conditions Requirements.
· Report to the system owner any action necessary to prevent or eliminate a violation.
· Must always make or implement proper decisions that have the best intentions of The Ambridge Water Authority in mind.
· Once certified the operator must meet all requirements for recertification or renewal of license including any continuing education requirements.
CANDIDATES MUST ALSO POSSESS/HAVE THE ABILITY TO:
- Excellent communication skills, with superior attention to detail.
- The physical ability to occasionally lift up to approx. 50lbs.
- A high degree of mechanical aptitude, computer skills, & interpersonal skills.
- Work all scheduled shifts. (AWA WTP operates 24/7, 365, w/ a rotating schedule)
- Move throughout the WTP without limitations, including stairs, ladders, around piping, and within confined spaces, etc.
