Quality Inspector
Basic Function:
Incumbent will perform basic inspection and testing of products to ensure product quality. The Quality Inspector will also place on hold any suspect product and report on any actual or potential quality issues and trends.
Essential Function and Responsibilities:
- Collect product for sampling, evaluation, testing and data recording.
- Enter data into the SPC data collection software and interpret all data collected in order to identify any quality trends and/or issues.
- Place on hold (HFI) any suspect product and communicate issues to the QA Manager, Shift Supervisor and other stakeholders as needed.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding the quality function, data collected and risk factors.
- Possess a complete working knowledge of all products, including finished manufactured goods and packaging.
- Understand and explain AIB guidelines as required.
- Mix bottle lubricants and deliver them to various application stations. Test for results.
- Utilize Levels training program to increase technical skill, knowledge and cross training with One Step and Two Step Quality Support.
- Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) as documented in the policy.
- Follow all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook, and as stated in the various safety-related training programs. Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to the appropriate personnel. Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- May perform other related assignments at the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager. Incumbent will also have a dotted-line report to the Shift Production Supervisor.
Job Specifications and Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Some level of post-secondary education preferred. Prior experience in a quality function is preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Good written and verbal communications skills are required. Incumbent must capable of writing, reading and interpreting memos, emails and reports on a regular basis. English proficiency required. Incumbent must possess effective teamwork and interpersonal skills in working with a variety of stakeholder and co-worker groups (both internal and external).
Technical Skills: A strong mathematical ability is essential. Incumbent must be able to perform calculations such as: averages, sums, standard deviations, spec limits and drawing measurements. Must be able to accurately enter data into online database. Must possess the ability to learn and operate QC equipment upon completion of training. Incumbent must be capable of learning and successfully applying various computer software related to the function including: MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), RealSPC, and SAP and other Company systems as required.
Other: Incumbent must have the ability to interpret and carry out both simple and complex instructions. Must possess the capability to make decisions and use independent judgment based on the situation, even in the face of adversity and/or production pressures. Must be able to work a 12-hour production shift schedule (including weekends and possible night shifts). Incumbent should be willing to demonstrate schedule flexibility for coverage for vacations and other absences.
Physical Requirements: Required to stand/walk for up to 11 hours per shift on concrete floor. Will be required to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally. May push/pull up to 900 lbs. occasionally using a hydraulic hand jack (equivalent to static push/pull of approximately 70 lbs.). Must frequently squat, bend, kneel, reach, etc., in order to carry out essential functions of the position.
Licenses: Must possess or be willing/able to obtain a valid forklift license.
