The Role

AMD is looking for an influential software engineer who is passionate about improving the performance of key applications and benchmarks. You will be a member of a core team of incredibly talented industry specialists and will work with the very latest hardware and software technology. 

The Person

The ideal candidate should be passionate about software engineering and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution. Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.

Key Responsibilities

• Optimize open-source deep learning training libraries, such as Megatron and Transformer Engine, for enhanced performance on AMD GPUs.
• Analyze and optimize key deep learning models for performance on AMD GPUs in a distributed computing environment, targeting both scale-up (multi-GPU) and scale-out (multi-node) architectures.
• Apply software engineering best practices while staying informed of trends and innovations in software, hardware, algorithms and architecture.
• Contribute to the development and bring-up of new ASIC and hardware.
• Apply a data-driven approach to optimization efforts and design groundbreaking AMD technologies.
• Debug and resolve existing issues while researching more efficient alternatives to achieve the same objectives.
• Collaborate with internal GPU library teams and develop technical relationships with peers and partners to optimize deep learning training.
  
  
  

Preferred Experience

• Expertise in C/C and Python programming, software design, debugging, performance analysis, and test design.
• Strong object-oriented programming background, with attention to detail in writing high-quality code.
• Experience with modern concurrent programming and threading APIs
• Familiarity with GPU computing (HIP, CUDA, OpenCL) and understanding of deep learning.
• Experience analyzing deep learning workloads with a focus on throughput performance optimization (a plus).
• Experience with the numerics of floating-point operations, and its impact on accuracy and precision (a plus).
• Experience with software development processes and tools, including source control systems (GitHub), CI/CD and debuggers/profilers under Linux.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to collaborate and contribute effectively in team environments.
  
  
  

Academic Credentials

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  
  
  

At AMD, your base pay is one part of your total rewards package. Your base pay will depend on where your skills, qualifications, experience, and location fit into the hiring range for the position.
