EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
JOB CLASSIFICATION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision performs skilled work in the investigation and eradication of mosquitos. Operates motorized equipment in investigation and eradication activities and performs related semi-skilled duties. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment and for maintenance as necessary. Primary responsibility is for operation of equipment for herbiciding, larviciding and ULV operations. When not operating equipment will be required to perform semi-skilled tasks. Assignment may be given in detail for each job or work may follow as established procedure. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for results obtained. Will receive direction and supervision from the Field Supervisor or the Director.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Duties consist of mixing and spraying pesticides and recording various data related to areas sprayed, chemical used, etc. Servicing all equipment used. Loads and unloads vehicles, perform maintenance such as checking the oil and water, adding fuel, checking brakes, changing tires, cleaning and washing vehicles. May be required to operate mowing machine or other powered machinery. Performs manual labor in incidental to the operation for which assigned, including ditch cleaning and pipe laying. Performs manual labor in yard and building maintenance. Performs related work as required. Operates, larviciding trucks, ULV trucks, and any other motorized vehicles as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of pesticides, mixing, storing, applying and decontamination procedures. Knowledge of mosquitos, life cycle, identification. Thorough knowledge of and ability to operate equipment used by Mosquito Control in which employed. Ability to perform service to equipment listed above. General knowledge of work performed by the Mosquito Control. Knowledge of traffic and other regulation governing the use of equipment throughout the District. Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary. Must have physical strength and agility sufficient to operate equipment under adverse conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
PROMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
All permanent employees of the unit in which the vacancy exists who have satisfactorily served one year in the class of Field Technician Apprentice or comparable level position may apply.
OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
Must be certified in the category of Public Health Pest Control by the Florida Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Entomology and Pest Control and/or obtain the same within one year and maintain the same during employment in this class. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must pass a drug test and physical examination. Must maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license.
