Job Summary:
The Database Administrator assists with development and maintenance of SQL databases and development of business intelligence applications, DBA responsibility including data modeling, performance, integrity and security of database, also troubleshooting user issues, user access data concurrently, and database backup/restore planning. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of our data, and to supporting our advanced data analytics and machine learning initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design, implement, and maintain robust database architectures that meet business requirements.
• Develop and implement processes for cleaning, organizing, and transforming data from various sources
• Identify and rectify data quality issues, including duplicates, missing values, and inconsistencies
• Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and security of databases
• Optimize database performance through regular monitoring, tuning, and maintenance activities
• Manage database security, including user access and permissions
• Develop and implement automated processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL)
• Create scripts and tools to automate routine database maintenance tasks
• Continuously evaluate and improve database management processes to increase efficiency
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Research, IT, and software development
• Refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
• Maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act, HIPAA
• Write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mathematics
• Master’s degree in a related field a plus
• Certifications in database management or related technologies a plus
Knowledge and Skills and abilities:
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with major database systems (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Problem-solving and good analytical skills
• Proven experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on data cleanup, transformation, architecture, and automation.
• Experience with ETL tools and processes.
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts and tools (e.g., Python, R, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
• Knowledge of data warehousing and big data technologies
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus
