The Internal Audit intern role provides the opportunity to excel and to set in motion a Career Path. The role requires the maturity to take on challenges, the desire to learn, and the desire to be part of a team. Our success relies on the passion we put on everything we do.

This internship is full of opportunities to participate collaboratively in various projects and additional assignments that directly contribute to the success of the unit you assist. In addition, the intern will have opportunities to interact and be mentored by executives and senior leadership. Upon completion of the intern program there is potential to obtain a full-time or project-based offer.

Growth In Competence And Knowledge

  • This intern position provides participants exposure to Audit.
  • Intern will be required to successfully complete all required course work within the allotted timeframe.
  • Progress will be monitored by the intern’s performance of required tasks by collaborative coaches, senior management, and the intern program director.
  • Interns will be assigned to an intern manager and will also gain exposure to multiple departments at the bank.
  • Interns will work with teammates and their manager on projects important to the bank's goals. On the job learning will be provided.
  • Interns will participate in team meetings, training, and presentations as available
  • Interns will complete a 12-week curriculum, marked with specific milestones.

The Role

The successful candidate will have exposure to these areas and perform the following duties:

  • Communicate confidently in a clear, concise and articulate manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Windows-based applications including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Support the use of enabling technologies in the audit, which includes effective risk assessments, data gathering and extractions and the use of statistical-based sampling procedures.
  • Support research, analysis and problem solving using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Obtain an understanding of regulatory, operational, and financial reporting risks through review of prior period results, financial results, reliable external information, industry trends, and gaining an understanding of expected transactions.
  • Prioritize tasks based on feedback and demonstrate professional skepticism.
  • Support the preparation of effective audit documentation that captures our understanding of the audited processes and technology applications used by business units, including the flow of transactions, identification of risk areas, and mapping to controls that mitigate the risks noted.
  • Support the execution of audit projects demonstrating creative thinking and proactiveness while working as a team member to build solid relationships with the internal audit team and multiple business units under audit.
  • With appropriate guidance, execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances with clear documentation of procedures performed and results reached using Amerant’s policies and procedures and relevant auditing standards. When performing testing procedures, identify potential misstatements and control deficiencies and escalate as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other supporting functions, including SOX Compliance tasks and work performed to assist the external auditors, to provide and coordinate solutions to help the business lines to solve their problems and improve their overall audit experience.
  • While performing audit tasks, identify process improvements and areas of audit efficiencies as part of Amerant’s continuous improvement environment.

Are you a fit?

  • Minimum of 2 years college education in Business, Accounting, Finance, Technology, or job-related degree. Seeking 2025 and 2026 Graduates.
  • Must be an enrolled student at Miami Dade, Barry University, St. Thomas University, Florida International University or Miami Dade College.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to prioritize work and effectively manage time.
  • Displays a high level of professionalism.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal relation skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills (confident, clear, concise, articulate).
  • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate financial data and identify patterns and discrepancies.
  • Innovative thinking to create unique and insightful visualizations that stand out.
