What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing – Weekly Pay! position at Amergis Healthcare Staffing?
The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing teaches deaf and hard-of-hearing pupils in a classroom setting. Instructs in academic subjects of regular curriculum or adapted curriculum to meet needs of student population.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements lesson plans
- Utilizes the use of technical and specialized equipment for students with hearing loss
- Prepares lessons that accommodate learning styles
- Communicates by way of sign/spoken language as appropriate
- Assists in the selection of instructional materials and equipment
- Provides training to students or staff to facilitate the child’s learning, inclusion and independence
- Assesses student learning styles and uses results to plan educational activities
- Conducts assessments of student progress and achievement using testing methodology
- Compiles reports, records, and documents as required
- Participates in IEP meetings with parents, teachers, students, and other School District staff
- Follow School District policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state regulations
- Knowledge in Sign Language and use of amplification devices for the deaf and hard-of-hearing
- Experience with deaf and hard-of-hearing students preferred
- ASL proficiency exam or Certification may be required per state, contract or district
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency required
