Job Overview
A Personal Care Assistant provides support services to assist clients with personal, physical mobility, and therapeutic care needs established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker, or other healthcare professional.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Clients with Day-to-Day Activities
- Perform necessary skills based on the patient's plan of care, demonstrating competence in providing quality care.
- Provide healthcare tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client's health and safety.
- Assist with transfers and ambulation to ensure safe movement.
- Participate in incidental household services as an integral part of a personal care plan (if applicable).
- Offer companionship through reading, listening, and engaging conversations with the client.
- Assist the client in developing independent skills through self-care activities like toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene.
- Implement behavior management techniques in accordance with directions given by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner.
- Report changes in patient/client status to ensure prompt attention.
- Maintain confidentiality adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy policies and procedures.
Requirements
- State licensure or certification if required by state and/or contract.
- One year of relevant patient/client care experience preferred.
- Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participate in Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
- Current CPR if applicable.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successfully complete new hire training as applicable to job site.
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Effective communication skills to elicit/provide information to/from appropriate individuals.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Be at least 18 years old.
