Pipefitter Job Description
Fitting pipe consisting of various materials, such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate valves and fittings is a key responsibility of this role. The process involves utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements and blue prints.
Production areas may involve working at different heights, confined spaces, varying weather conditions, and multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most positions in the shipyard, a Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of the layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges and valves
- Fitting pipe according to specifications and requirements
- Utilizing various tools and equipment for pipe fitting tasks
- Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
Safety & Environmental Factors:
This role involves working under extreme hot or cold conditions and requires physical ability to stand for the entire shift, use hands for various tasks, ascend stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
