Director of Safety - America West Medical Transportation

America West Medical Transportation is a leading provider of non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) services in Northern California. We are committed to providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to our clients. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Safety to oversee and enhance our safety programs and ensure the well-being of our passengers, drivers, and the public.

Job Summary:

The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the company's safety programs. This includes ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. The Director of Safety will play a critical role in fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies and procedures, including driver training, vehicle maintenance, accident prevention, and emergency response plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including DOT/FMCSA, ADA, and HIPAA.
  • Oversee that safety training programs, including driving, passenger assistance techniques, and sensitivity training are working.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards and other regulatory requirements.
  • Work with operations, ensuring that regular safety audits and inspections on construction sites to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Review safety training for employees on safety practices, emergency response procedures, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with operations managers to integrate safety protocols
  • Analyze incident reports and develop strategies to mitigate risks associated with occupational health and safety.
  • Keep abreast of industry’s best practices, safety regulations/standards, and emerging trends in environmental health and safety (EHS).
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related inquiries and concerns within the organization.
  • Monitor driver performance and provide feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Reviews and improves investigative process – those accidents and incident, root cause is identified, and corrective actions are implemented timely.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and prepare reports for management.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of vehicles and facilities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure safety is integrated into all aspects of the business. For example, work with the Human Resources Department on the company's drug and alcohol testing program.
  • Analyze safety data, identify trends, and develop targeted safety initiatives. Collaborating with other departments, to integrate safety goals into all operations.
  • Monitor initiative effectiveness, promote a safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Develop and implement a safety incentive program to promote safe behavior practices.
  • Represent the company in safety-related matters with regulatory agencies and industry organizations.
  • Manage and mentor safety staff.
  • May prepare and manage the safety department budget.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the safety program and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in building and leading effective safety programs, resulting in measurable improvements in key safety metrics such as incident rates and lost time.
  • Bachelor's degree in safety management, transportation operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred; additional certifications related to occupational health are a plus.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other safety certifications a plus.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in safety management, preferably in the transportation industry. NEMT or EMS experience a plus.
  • Active/Valid CA DL. Clear criminal background and motor vehicle background screens.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and remote meeting tool(s
  • Prior experience with a safety management system (SMS), like VelocityEHS
  • Strong knowledge of state motor vehicles, federal transportation, ADA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Excellent report writing skills with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in identifying potential risks and implementing corrective measures.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence others towards achieving a safe work environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $105,000.00 per year
